World War I’s effects on society left many in the United States disillusioned, including a body of authors. American Realism presented American Society after the war accurately and without bias, as well as attempted to seek out solutions to issues brought out by War-caused suffering. Realists attempted to present a comprehensive view of modern life by showing the total picture. Using powers of observation and documentation, they attempted to combine a variety of details. They attempted to compare their observations to universal truths.
