Some 55 species of deer mice, or white-footed mice, are known. Numerous, they weigh between 0.5 to two ounces (14-57 g) and are 3.5 to 6.7 inches (9-17 cm) in length, not including a tail that may be up to eight inches (20 cm) long. Eyes and ears are relatively large and its fur is soft, dense, and varied in color. Deer mice are found from Alaska to northern South America. They resemble the European long-tailed field mouse.
