A rose is a flowering shrub and the flower of this shrub. There are more than 100 species of wild roses, all from the northern hemisphere and most from temperate regions. The species form a group of generally thorny shrubs or climbers, and sometimes trailing plants, reaching between 6.5 and 16.5 feet tall. The flowers typically have five petals, usually white or pink. The rose is the state flower of Iowa, New York, and Oklahoma, and the official floral emblem of Georgia and North Dakota.
